Why Refresh Rates Often Show Slight Fractional Offsets (e.g. 143.98Hz)

Computer displays use pixel clocks driven by quartz crystal oscillators. Video standards such as NTSC and DisplayPort often operate at fractional multipliers:

  • 60Hz: Commonly operates at 59.94 Hz (1000 / 1001 multiplier).
  • 120Hz: Commonly operates at 119.88 Hz.
  • 144Hz: Commonly operates at 143.98 Hz.
  • 240Hz: Commonly operates at 239.96 Hz.

These fractional frequencies are completely normal and indicate standard VESA timing compliant operation.
