Frequently Asked Questions

Technical answers to common hardware, refresh rate, and browser diagnostic questions.

What is keyboard debounce delay and why is it necessary?

Mechanical switch contacts bounce microscopically when pressed, causing electrical noise that microcontrollers could register as multiple rapid keypresses (chattering). Debounce algorithms delay registration by 2ms–10ms until the contact stabilizes.

How do Hall Effect (Magnetic) and Optical switches eliminate debounce latency?

Optical switches use light beams and Hall Effect switches use magnetic flux sensors (analog voltage). Because there is no physical metal contact leaf to bounce, optical and Hall Effect keyboards (Wooting, Razer, SteelSeries) achieve true sub-1ms debounce latency.
