Why 120 FPS Halves Perceived Motion Blur
Modern LCD and OLED monitors are sample-and-hold displays: each frame remains illuminated continuously until the next refresh cycle arrives. When your eyes track moving objects across a screen displaying at 60 FPS, the image stays stationary on your retina for 16.66ms while your eye is continuously moving, blurring the image across your photoreceptors.
At 120 FPS, the frame duration is reduced to 8.33ms, halving the retinal smear distance and rendering moving text, UI elements, and enemy silhouettes twice as sharply.
