What is mouse polling rate (Hz)?

Mouse polling rate is the number of times per second your optical mouse sensor reports its coordinates to your PC. A 1000Hz mouse updates every 1.0ms, while a 4000Hz or 8000Hz mouse updates every 0.25ms to 0.125ms.

Why does my 1000Hz or 4000Hz mouse only show 500Hz in the test?

To saturate a 1000Hz+ polling rate, you must move the mouse continuously at moderate-to-high speed. If the mouse is moving slowly, the sensor only generates packets when physical coordinate changes occur.

Does 8000Hz mouse polling rate increase CPU usage?

Yes, handling 8,000 interrupts per second requires considerable single-core CPU throughput. We recommend pairing 4K/8KHz polling with modern processors (AMD Ryzen 7000/9000 series or Intel 13th/14th Gen) and playing at high in-game framerates.
